These are our five top tips for exploring the local area by foot or bicycle. You can also check out tonnes of routes on a local map here.
Lac de l'Escourou, Eymet
Step outside the gîte, stroll across the field and you’ll find yourself at the water's edge. From here, you can loop around the lake Escourou for 7 kilometres. The banks of the river are wooded, providing some dappled shade in summer. Bird lovers can get comfortable in one of the many hides around the lake. We highly recommend packing a picnic to eat on one of the grassy banks.
La Sauvetat-du-Dropt
Once again, you can start this route from the gîte. Follow the 9 km loop to a quaint local village, La Sauvetat-du-Dropt. Here you can take a moment to admire the architecture - be sure to check out the 23 arched bridge across the river Dropt! There are plenty of tourist information boards along the way so you can brush up on the local history which dates back to the 6th century. If you get peckish, the local store stocks a bounty of local produce.
Eymet
Take a short drive to the centre of Eymet, where you can park for free by the river Dropt. From here, you can stroll along the ever-so-pretty streets of this 13th century bastide town. There are plentiful cafes and restaurants if you want to make a day of it. If you’re looking for a longer hike, or a nice bike ride, this 11km route starts just outside the town centre.
Bergerac and beyond
The V91 is a 40km, car free and incredibly picturesque route. Hop on and off or complete the full track - either way you’ll get stunning views of the dordogne river and the surrounding countryside.
Road Cycling
For those that love to get out on the open road, there are plenty of spectacular routes in Eymet! Kamoot is a great place to find a range of tried and tested options.
