🚣🏻‍♀️ Wild swimming, watersports and river tours

You’re never far from a lake or a river in the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne. They're beautiful, rich with biodiversity and fantastic for those long, hot summer days. Here are a few recommended spots that are easily reachable from Gîte du Lac in Eymet. But to be honest, it’s hard to go wrong!

Lac de l'Escourou

We had to start here, didn’t we! It’s a popular spot for fishing, walking, cycling and watersports alike. You can rent canoes and stand up paddleboards (and mountain bikes!) from Pro sports 24, a 15 minute walk from the gîte - swimming isn't permitted. You can also rent canoes a few minutes down the road at La Sauvetat du Dropt, on the river Dropt.

The Dordogne River

So famous, it doesn’t really need an introduction. This UNESCO world heritage site is incredibly clean and absolutely wonderful for wild swimming. There are many areas of slow moving water (always take care!) If you prefer to stay dry, you can take a river boat tour from Bergerac. Discover the history of this medieval town whilst spotting kingfishers, herons and other wildlife along the banks of the river. There are also plenty of options for canoe hire along the Dordogne.

Marmande Beach

If you’re prefer a supervised beach, head to Marmande Beach in July and August. It’s free to use and includes a picnic area.
